Jolanda van der Velden, PhD, is chair of the Department for Physiology at the Amsterdam University Medical Center, and director of the Amsterdam Cardiovascular Sciences Institute. Since 2012 van der Velden is professor of the Netherlands Heart Institute. The main research interest of the van der Velden group is to study the role of sarcomeric proteins in cardiac performance for which specific protein analyses and functional assays have been designed. Studies on the genetic heart disease hypertrophic cardiomyopathy include basic cell and tissue analyses, which are combined with in vivo cardiovascular imaging in mouse models and human patients.
